Safety Council for West Michigan
February 5th, 2003

Speaker: Frank Solik, President, Peacemaker

This program will cover the issue of concealed guns in the workplace. An issue some employers may face as a result of the new law in Michigan.

The presentation will include the facts of the new CCW law, and the legal options available to employers. The potential that some employees may be armed becomes an issue of Workplace Violence Prevention.

We will discuss the elements of a successful Violence Prevention Program, including: the definition of workplace violence; bad behaviors that qualify; the three phases of bad behavior; the three types of people that may engage in workplace violence, and how to deal with each; tools to deescalate potentially violent behavior; what staff should and should not do; and dealing with terminating the job of an aggressive employee.

We will conclude with a brief discussion of how to implement these preventive procedures.
